What happens when musicians and music lovers all share the same cab ride? Well, a great band is formed. Taxi Taxi was born after sharing a cab ride in 2005, the band began meeting to develop, rehearse, and record songs in New York City. After three years, they released their first album: Maps and Legends.
I find no better way to describe their sound than what is posted on their website:
“The band serves up tunes that are by turns rocky and melancholic, experimental and nostalgic.”
Their first album takes you back in time to someplace in the past. Maps and Legends is a mixture of sounds that take you back to your childhood home, your first love, or the hardship of the teenage years. While their sound is still being developed, the songwriting is phenomenal. Despite their developing sound, they manage to incorporate a variety of styles and instruments throughout the album.
The band is due to release another album sometime in 2009, so be on the lookout for that. I’m going to mark them as one of my “bands to watch” for the upcoming years. Given time, I’m sure their sound will develop and they will become on of the defining bands in their style.
In the meantime, check out their cool show posters and one of the best tracks on the album:
